I am going to keep this short, because honestly, there is a lot of eating and drinking to be done today. I LOVE this day. What other day of the year does the entire country gather around their tv to watch commercials while gorging themselves on all sorts of ooey, gooey, cheese, salty, crunchy treats? What New Year’s Resolution?? I happen to think the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a national day of rest. Wouldn’t it be great to have a day of reprieve from all of that over indulging? I’m pretty sure I should be president. Feel free to write me in.
So in preparation of this social anomaly, I started keeping an eye out for recipes a few weeks ago. My goal was to pick “fun” foods that I wouldn’t typically make, as well as things that my girls might eat. So with that in mind, may I present our menu for the day:
• Pretzel Dogs with a Cheese Sauce
• Schnitzel Strips with Green Tahini Dip
• Puff Pastry with Asian Pork Filling
Beer Pairing
Oscar Blues was our obvious pairing for these treats. Their brewery began in Lyons, Colorado. And has now expanded operations to North Carolina. How fitting for a Denver/Carolina pigskin matchup! Also—a little trivia for you—I designed the label for their beer Gordon (which has now been renamed G’Night). Mama’s Little Yella Pils is an easy drinking beer (35 IBUs and 5.3% ABV) and a perfect, tastier alternative to those big name beers. And Dale’s Pale Ale, I swear this beer is becoming an american institution all it’s own, and rightfully so. It’s such solid beer, and offers a bigger hoppy punch if that’s more your bag. I’ll be having a few of each.
Now over to Lance for today’s music selection:
Music
In honor of Denver being in SBL I’ve picked the song Things to Do In Denver When You’re Dead by one of my favorite artists, Warren Zevon. This track was from Mr. Bad Example released in 1991. Moving onto the Carolina Panthers showing up at the NFC champs, I was going to go back to my wife’s last artist, Mr. Ryan Adams. His band Whiskeytown has an unbelievable album called Strangers Almanac but I instead went with Ben Folds. With all the black vs white debate on quarterbacks this Super Bowl I thought his cover of NWA’s Bitches Ain’t S**t could bring us a little closer together.
